New Kent Fire-Rescue is always looking for individuals who what to join the ranks of volunteers that help protect the citizens and property throughout our communities! In rural localities such as New Kent volunteers are an important aspect of Fire and EMS services... so, if you’re interested in being an Everyday Hero then please take the first step by downloading and completing our Volunteer Application (PDF).
The 2020 New Volunteer Member Orientations will be held on the following Wednesday dates:
- January 29
March 25(CANCELED) May 27(CANCELED)
- July 29
September 30(CANCELED) November 18(CANCELED)
Attendance at only one of these orientations is required. The start time and location for each date is 7:00 PM in the facility training room at Fire Station 1 (Providence Forge) located at 4315 North Courthouse Road, Providence Forge, VA 23140. Pre-registration is required for all persons wanting to attend an orientation.
To preregister for an orientation you must send an email to Deputy Fire Chief Lisa Baber to indicate the orientation date you will attend; be sure to include your name and a daytime contact telephone number. You may also email Chief Baber with any questions you may have or for additional information about NKFR’s volunteer program.

Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) A Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) supports local response capability by training volunteers to organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers at the disaster site, to provide immediate assistance to victims, and to collect disaster intelligence to support responders’ efforts when they arrive.
Currently New Kent County has one (1) CERT that was established by the residents of the Brickshire Community.
The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES).
An all volunteer Amateur Radio organization operating in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management to provide back-up communications for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the various counties therein. New Kent 4 Amateur Radio (NK4AR) is the supporting Amateur Radio club for this effort in New Kent County.
