VDOT traffic alert - Stage Road

Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation will close Stage Road (Route 632) to through traffic between Polish Town Road (Route 634) and Ropers Church Road (Route 621) in New Kent County for drainage work and a pipe replacement project beginning at 7:30 a.m. Monday, March 7.

LOCAL PROPERTY ACCESS WILL BE PERMITTED.

The road will be closed daily from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., and will reopen nightly. Work is expected to be complete by the end of the day Friday, March 11.

During daytime work hours, drivers should follow the posted detour route:

• Northbound Stage Rd. (Rt. 632) – Take New Kent Hwy. (Rt. 30) north to Polish Town Rd. (Rt. 634) west back to Stage Rd.

• Southbound Stage Rd. (Rt. 632) – Take Polish Town Rd. (Rt. 634) east to New Kent Hwy. (Rt. 30) south back to Stage Rd.

March 7-11 is Severe Weather Awareness Week; March 8 is statewide tornado drill

Spring is almost here and with it the chance of severe storms and tornadoes.

Severe Weather Awareness Week is designed to refresh, remind, and educate everyone about the seasonal threats from severe weather and how to avoid them. It’s also a great time to make and practice your emergency plan!

Virginia’s Severe Weather Awareness Week will be from March 7-11, 2022, with the Statewide Tornado Drill taking place on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 9:45 a.m.

Each day during the week, a different topic will be covered and shared on social media. The information shared with be preparedness tips and ways to stay safe during severe weather.

March 12 shredding/recycling event

Don't know what to do with old papers or confidential documents? Shred them! Don't know what to do with your old electronics, eye glasses, hearing aids and tires? Recycle them!

The Clean County Committee is sponsoring a paper shredding event on Saturday, March 12, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This event will be held in the New Kent County Administration Building parking lot (12007 Courthouse Circle, New Kent) and is free for New Kent County residents.

Also at this event - please help us collect food and financial donations for the New Kent Animal Shelter. Preferred food to help aid in the health of our furry friends: Purina Pro, Hills, Blue Buffalo, Pedigree, IAMS, Friskies, and Meow Mix. Make checks payable to the New Kent Animal Shelter.
